Back to School

My son goes to preschool three mornings a week. He’s in a Spanish immersion program and the teachers tell me he understands them well and speaks to the other kids in Spanish, in context (like “mi tourno” for “my turn” – haha!). My husband and I don’t speak Spanish (unless you count what little I remember from high school) so my plan is for our son to know it well enough that we can take a trip to Spain in a few years and he can be our translator. Fingers crossed! (That he can translate AND that we can afford to go!)

In the meantime, there are more kids and more parents and I missed Parent’s Night (out of town) and MORE NAMES TO REMEMBER. How about you? Are you using NameBuddy to help you remember the new folks at your kids’ school(s)? I sure am and one of the other moms in my son’s class told me she bought it, too. Gracias!

Hola! Back to School!

Radio Silence

Sorry for the long absence. Summer happened. Visits from family, trips to see family, and one poorly timed trip to Nags Head. Yep, we had to evacuate because of Hurricane Irene. My husband’s family goes every year so we’ll give it a shot again next summer.

How was your summer?

Another use for NameBuddy

A newly single friend told me she’s going to use NameBuddy to help her keep up with all the guys she’s meeting online. She relayed a story of how she met one guy for drinks and called him the wrong name. She’s going to use the notes field to write clues, like what they’ve discussed online, to help her keep track of who’s who. I thought that was brilliant and wanted to pass it on. Just cuz I made NameBuddy with moms in mind sure doesn’t mean it can’t help my single friends out. It wasn’t so long ago that I was single (5 year anniversary coming up later this year) and truthfully, I could have used this app back then, too.

Any unusual uses you’ve come up with? I’d love to hear about them!

Our First Review is In!

The folks at crave, the gadget blog from cnet, were kind enough to review NameBuddy and they like it! The reporter emailed me a link oh-so-casually today, saying only “Just wanted to give you a heads up.” I caught my breath and clicked as fast as I could. Cuz “just wanted to give you a heads up” could mean it sucks or she liked it or any number of things.

Fortunately, she likes it:

There’s a place for adding in children’s names, making this a good tool for parents who are meeting folks through their kids’ schools. It could help make the next PTA meeting a little less awkward when you can search Name Buddy to find that little Ricky’s mom’s name is Patty.

She even gives a shout out to the pink color scheme and manicured nail in the icon. I felt that was a bit of a risk when we went so uber-girly with the graphics but I wanted to telegraph that this app was designed by a woman for women. And it seems that the message is getting through.

Let the Marketing Begin

Back to work today and in between my day job*, I’m emailing, tweeting and Facebooking my friends about the app. I have a few promo codes I’ve shared. Reviews are much appreciated!

It’s been wonderful to see all the support from my friends – both “real” and “virtual.” I’m also getting great feedback to incorporate in future releases.

*I say “day job,” but when you own your own business, it’s a day and night job!

And We’re Live!

Happy Independence Day! I hope you’re enjoying yummy food, family and fireworks. The app went live today in the Apple App store. Please let me know how you like it and be sure and review it. This is my first app and I’m SUPER excited and a little bit nervous. My dad just called and said he downloaded it. He wants to use it to keep track of all the people he meets at his vegetarian club. He’s turned into a full-on vegan, which makes it so hard to cook for him! But I’m sure there’s an app for that. haha

Here’s NameBuddy in the AppStore.

Hello world!

We’ve worked out all the bugs (we hope) and the app is now at Apple waiting for approval. Hope to launch in the iTunes store any day now!
